Contrast Test

Contrast ratio is the difference between the brightest white and the darkest black your monitor can display, expressed as a ratio (e.g., 1000:1). A higher contrast ratio means deeper blacks and more vivid, lifelike images. VA panels typically have the best native contrast ratios (3000:1+), while IPS panels are usually around 1000:1. OLED displays achieve effectively infinite contrast because they can turn pixels completely off. Regular diagnostic verification ensures that your hardware operates at peak factory specifications and delivers reliable performance across gaming and professional tasks.

Understanding the Test Modes

Our Gray Steps mode shows 32 shades from black to white — you should be able to distinguish every single step. The Near-Black test places very dark gray patches (values 1-32) on a pure black background. If you can see all 32 patches distinctly, your monitor has excellent shadow detail. The Near-White test does the same in reverse. The Color Bands mode tests RGB channel separation across the full range. Utilizing standardized browser benchmarks eliminates the guesswork from troubleshooting, giving you real-time data to optimize your setup without third-party software.

How to Improve Contrast

In your monitor's OSD menu, the Contrast setting directly controls this. However, setting it too high will 'crush' whites (making near-white shades indistinguishable from pure white), and setting it too low will make the image look flat and washed out. Adjust until you can see all gray steps clearly in our test.
