Screen Size Calculator - Dimensions & Area

The Screen Size Calculator is an advanced visualization tool built to help you determine the exact physical dimensions (width and height) and the total surface area of any monitor, television, or laptop screen. When you purchase a screen, manufacturers universally advertise the 'size' as the diagonal distance from one corner to the opposite corner. While this single number is standard, it doesn't actually tell you how tall or wide the screen will be on your desk. This tool solves that problem.

By inputting the advertised diagonal size (in inches or centimeters) alongside the screen's aspect ratio, our calculator uses Pythagorean theorem mathematics to precisely extract the exact horizontal width and vertical height of the visible display area. This is incredibly important for users planning a multi-monitor setup who need to ensure that their new secondary monitor will physically fit next to their primary monitor on their desk or VESA mount.

One of the most powerful features of this calculator is the 'Total Screen Area' metric. A 34-inch ultrawide (21:9) monitor sounds much larger than a 32-inch standard (16:9) monitor, but when you look at the total square inches of screen real estate, the 32-inch 16:9 monitor actually has more physical surface area! This tool exposes these mathematical realities, allowing buyers to make highly informed decisions based on physical space rather than just marketing numbers.

We have integrated a live, dynamic visualizer that generates a proportional representation of the screen based on your inputs. A dotted diagonal line represents the measurement you provided, allowing you to visually grasp how the aspect ratio dramatically impacts the shape of the display. For instance, putting in a 49-inch 32:9 super-ultrawide will render a vastly different, extremely wide rectangle compared to a 50-inch standard television, despite the diagonal measurements being nearly identical.

The tool seamlessly handles conversions between Imperial (inches) and Metric (centimeters) units. Simply click the toggle on the control panel to instantly recalculate and display all physical dimensions in your preferred measurement system. We've also included quick-click presets for the most common monitor sizes on the market—24 inch, 27 inch, 32 inch, 34 inch ultrawide, and 49 inch super-ultrawide—so you can instantly compare popular models before making a purchase.
